Scene… Former Major League Baseball player Darryl Strawberry and his wife Tracy and son were seen dining at The Americano at 261 Main St. in downtown Stamford last weekend as well as Howard Stern Show producer and Greenwich resident Gary Dell’Abate aka Babba Booey and his wife Mary. The restaurant, co-owned by restaurateur Peter Valis, owner of Kouzina Greek Taverna and Bar, opened its doors on Dec. 5.
Scene…Actor/producer and Greenwich native Scott Winters spoke at the Men’s Breakfast at Christ Church Greenwich last Saturday. Along with his acting career, Winters, who grew up in Greenwich as a parishioner of Christ Church, travels to Haiti to work as an EMT, and is the founder of Merciful, a nonprofit dedicated to work cross-culturally by empowering at-risk communities in the U.S. and East Africa. He’s appeared in TV and film including "Good Will Hunting," "NYPD Blue," "Oz," "Dexter," "Law & Order" and many others. He is the brother of actor Dean Winters (who plays "Mayhem" in the Allstate Insurance commercials) and writer/producer Brad Winters ("Oz," "The Jury," and many others). Scott and his wife Jennifer have two daughters. His father Phil Winters is also a parishioner of Christ Church.
Scene…Noroton Presbyterian Church's fourth annual Christmas concert, “Christmas Tradition Meets Broadway,” takes place Sunday at 6 p.m. in Darien. Broadway stars will join the NPC Chancel Choir and Orchestra to perform holiday favorites under the musical direction of Dan Micciche, music director and conductor of "Wicked" on Broadway, and Dwayne Condon, Noroton Presbyterian’s director of music and fine arts. The concert is free and open to the public and will also be live streamed.
Out there… Stamford Downtown is once again hosting “Deck the Downtown,” the 13th annual storefront facade decorating contest featuring 25 Stamford Downtown businesses. The public can select winners by casting their votes online through Friday at 5 p.m. All voters will be automatically entered to win a $100 Stamford Downtown Card (a digital gift card redeemable at more than 50 downtown businesses). The business with the most votes will receive a grand prize of $750 and the honorable mention winner will receive a prize of $500. The prize money awarded by Stamford Downtown will be dedicated to permanent spring storefront façade improvements at the winning businesses. Participants include Acuario, Americano, Atelier Valoar Couture, Blackstones Steakhouse, Bradford’s Grill & Tavern, Columbus Park Trattoria, Garden Catering, Honey Joe’s Family Coffeehouse, Kouzina Greek Taverna & Bar, La Jolie Salon and Spa, Noches de Colombia, Quartiere, Remo’s Brick Oven Pizza Company, Safavieh Home Furnishings, the Ferguson Library, Tigin Irish Pub, United Home & Patio, Whim and Yi Fang Taiwan Fruit Tea. Scene…Sophia’s Costumes and Gifts at 428 E. Putnam Ave. in Cos Cob is offering Champagne Saturdays through the end of December. Shoppers will be treated to a glass of champagne and receive a 10 percent discount on purchases of $50 or more.
