This sweet take on Gujarati snack dabeli ‘shocks’ netizens - The Indian Express

foody.indah.link

Dabeli, a simple snack prepared with a mix of spicy potato fillings inside a bun, is one of the most popular dishes in Gujarat. People often experiment with dabeli by adding new ingredients or preparation styles to it.

Now a sweet take on this classic snack is going viral. The dish titled ‘Unique Dabeli of Vadodara’ shows a man preparing what looks more like a mix of ice creams with sweetened buns instead of a dabeli.

In the video, the cook stacks up sweetened buns with dry fruits, grated cheese, and three types of pre-packaged ice creams that he thinly slices. As per the undated video, this dish was prepared at Bhai Bhai Dabeliwala, a street food joint in Vadodara’s Akota.

A video of this mish-matched preparation was posted online by a Twitter user who goes by the name Chirag Barjatya (@chiragbarjatyaa) Wednesday. While sharing this video, Barjatya wrote, “Every second of this video is shocking.”

Commenting on it, a Twitter user wrote: “There should be a disclaimer before such kind of videos. This content can be scary watch at your own risk. Genuinely disrespecting food in the name of experiment.”

Another person remarked, “I think these food bloggers just destroyed the authentic foods, now these cooks try to garnish every dish with lot of cheese and mayonnaise.”

In September last year, a picture of ‘dabeli fondue’ went viral on Twitter. As its name suggests, the hybrid dish showed what appears to be a spicy potato curry mix in place of melted cheese. It was served alongside bits of crisp pao or bread.

Italian academic cooks up controversy with claim carbonara is US dish - The Guardian

foody.indah.link

An Italian academic has caused more than a stir after saying the recipe for carbonara is American and the only place in the world to find bona fide parmesan cheese nowadays is Wisconsin.

Alberto Grandi, a professor of food history at the University of Parma, made the remarks in an interview with the Financial Times. He also claimed tiramisu and panettone were relatively recent inventions and that most Italians had not even heard of pizza before the 1950s.

Grandi is known for making bold statements about Italian food but for Coldiretti, Italy’s biggest farmers’ association, he has taken the biscuit with his latest claims, especially as the government has just put forward the country’s sacred cuisine as a candidate for Unesco’s intangible cultural heritage list.

Coldiretti said Grandi’s interview delivered “a surreal attack” against symbolically Italian food “precisely at the occasion of its candidacy for intangible heritage”.

“On the basis of imaginative reconstructions, the most deeply rooted national culinary traditions are disputed,” the association said.

“In essence, [he claims] the Americans have invented carbonara, and panettone and tiramisu are recent commercial products. Above all, [the interview] goes so far as to hypothesise about parmesan and the one produced in Wisconsin in the US – the homeland of fake ‘made in Italy’ cheeses.”

Grandi also attracted the ire of Matteo Salvini, the Italian deputy prime minister and leader of the far-right League who has long used food as a symbol of Italy’s national identity.

In a post on social media, Salvini said “experts and newspapers are envious of our tastes and beauty” before adding that “buying, eating and drinking Italian is good for health, work and the environment!”

Grandi’s claims were partly drawn from existing academic literature, the Financial Times said. In reference to carbonara, he cites Luca Cesari, a food historian and author of the book A Brief History of Pasta, who said carbonara was “an American dish born in Italy”.

The dish is believed to have been first made by an Italian chef in 1944 for American soldiers in Riccione using bacon and eggs rations. “Italian cuisine really is more American than it is Italian,” Grandi told the Financial Times.

Parmesan cheese, from the Emilia-Romagna region, dates back to the 12th century and Grandi believes Italian immigrants, probably from the Parma area, started producing it in Wisconsin in the early 20th century.

He said Wisconsin parmesan was “an exact modern-day match” for the original recipe because, unlike their counterparts in Parma, cheesemakers in the US state never evolved the recipe.

As for pizza, Grandi said that before the second world war it could only be found in some southern Italian cities and that the first restaurant serving only pizza opened in New York in 1911. “For my father in the 1970s, pizza was just as exotic as sushi is for us today,” he said.

As the row rumbled on, Grandi told La Repubblica on Monday that Italian cuisine was “assuming an identity dimension beyond all reasonableness” and that the “Pavlovian reactions” to his comments “make no sense”.

“I don’t understand why many attack me,” he said. “I don’t question the quality of Italian food or products, I reconstruct the history of these dishes in a historical and philologically correct way.

“With my studies I have shown that many preparations derive from the last 50 to 60 years of history and from interactions with the American culture.”

A revealing moment from Kate Middleton and Prince William has gone viral after appearing on TikTok.

A fan account posted a video showing the now Princess of Wales tasting a delicacy during her and Prince William’s royal tour of the Caribbean last year.

During the taste test in the Bahamas, Middleton confidently ate a piece of conch, a seafood that is rumored to have the same effects as Viagra.

In the clip, the mother of three can be heard teasing her husband, saying, "I’m a little bit more adventurous than William."

He responded, "I can handle it."

The royal couple completed an eight-day tour of the Commonwealth countries in the Caribbean in March 2022 on behalf of The Queen, intending to strengthen the U.K.’s ties with Commonwealth countries as Queen Elizabeth marked 70 years on the throne.

They shared some other cute moments, showing off their dance moves in Belize, and playing drums in Jamaica at the home of Bob Marley.

However, the trip overall was met with controversy and protests from locals over Britain’s colonial past.

Before their tour came to an end, William released an unprecedented statement reflecting on the future governance of the Caribbean nations.

"I know that this tour has brought into even sharper focus questions about the past and the future," said the 40-year-old.

"In Belize, Jamaica and The Bahamas, that future is for the people to decide upon."

While the future is unsettled for the former colonies, the Prince of Wales said he wanted to continue serving them through the Commonwealth, a voluntary association of 54 countries with historical links to Britain.

The queen was head of the Commonwealth throughout her reign, and King Charles III, William’s father, has now taken her place.

Shannon Storms Beador Spills on the "Super Sweet" Man She's Dating After John Janssen Split - Bravo

foody.indah.link

Shannon Storms Beador is dipping her toes back into the dating pool following her recent split from John Janssen.

The Real Housewives of Orange County cast member revealed as much during the March 24 episode of Jeff Lewis Live before dishing on one particular suitor, who Jeff himself said he had already met. "Shannon had a date last night," the Radio Andy host teased. "We're not gonna say the name, but she brought a gentleman caller with her to dinner [and] I liked him a lot."

Shannon described the mystery man as "very handsome" and "super, super sweet." Not only that, but he's also "super fit," she added, "and that's a good influence for me."

They were apparently introduced by one of her "core four" friends, and although she was admittedly hesitant to go on the date, it sounds like Shannon found the night to be a success. As she put it, "I thought, 'Okay, it's a dinner. Like, I'm not gonna like this guy,' but he's super sweet."

The date comes just under five months after Shannon and John split. Reflecting on their breakup, as well as her divorce from David Beador, she said, "When David and I broke up, I stayed home for seven months. I didn't go out to dinner, I didn't do anything. And I thought, 'Okay, John and I had broken up probably almost three months before it became public.' So my mom goes, 'Just go out to dinner with the guy.' And I did."

Now, they already have plans to see each other again. "I'm gonna see him tomorrow; We're gonna go to dinner with my core three," Shannon said. "The four couldn't make it, so [it's] the three of us."

That's not all the two have planned, though. Shannon is headed to Cabo for an 8-day vacation that she and John had initially booked together, and while she'll mostly be relaxing on her own, she said that her new man is set to join her "for part of it."

As Shannon previously revealed, she was "blindsided" by her and John's breakup, especially considering that they “were in a great place.” What’s more, John had apparently told Shannon he was ready to take their relationship to “the next level.”

Shannon Storms Beador Comments on Her Ex-Husband's Divorce Drama

“I got teary-eyed with the words that he was saying and I thought, ‘God, we are gonna get there,’” Shannon said in January. “I just thought whatever the next step is, we’re gonna take it. I remember tearing up and I remember saying very kind things to him.”

Less than a week later, in the final days of November, John told Shannon he was “done with the relationship,” she recalled, adding that despite their abrupt split, “I have never loved anyone close to as much as I loved John, [and] I wanted everything for the entire time to work out.”

John, for his part, told People that the breakup was a “super hard” decision for him to make.

“I’ve been in pain over it. It’s sad because I love Shannon very much,” he said in January. “I have loved her more deeply than any woman in my life. She’s one of a kind; so funny and generous and full of life and adventurous. We have a connection that’s unlike anything I’ve ever had. And I know that for as long as I live, I’ll never meet anyone like her again. But that doesn’t mean we’re right for each other for the rest of our lives.”

“The last thing I wanted to do is hurt Shannon, but I do think I did the right thing for the both of us," John concluded. "We’re two people who love each other very much, but love is not always enough. And while I know Shannon sees it as I’ve said things to her I never meant, I hope she’ll be able to see that there’s no bad person here. It’s two really good people who couldn’t make it work.”
