The countdown is on for holiday celebrations with elaborate and extensive menus, including delicious side dishes, big main courses and scrumptious desserts.

Recipe blog Inspired Taste recently analyzed Google Trends to determine the “most sought after” holiday side dish recipes in every state. The results? Some expected, others less so.

Michigan’s favorite holiday side dish is a good one that’s a true Midwest classic: green bean casserole. Wisconsin also favors this dish.

However, our neighbors to the south picked a weird one. Ohio’s favorite holiday side dish, according to this data, is Brussels sprouts.

Illinois and Indiana both picked mashed potatoes, which is more understandable as a holiday staple. It was by far the most popular dish in this data analysis, claiming more than 25 states.

Green bean casserole was popular only in the Midwest and had 12 states. Brussels sprouts was the top choice in 10 states, mostly on the east coast. Finally, scalloped potatoes claimed two states.
