The only Bay Area baseball fans able to see an Opening Day game in person are the roughly 12,000 fans who will enter the Oakland Coliseum Thursday night when the A’s take on the Houston Astros.

Some fans who want to watch that game or the Giants’ road opener on television are in for a rude awakening: Regional coverage of the teams is no longer on Dish Network or Sling TV, starting Thursday.

Warriors and Sharks fans will miss out, too, as those teams’ games are broadcast on NBC Sports Bay Area and NBC Sports California, respectively, just like the Giants’ and Athletics’ games.

Last month, a spokesperson for Dish, which owns Sling TV, told this news organization in a statement that the company couldn’t justify continuing to carry the Regional Sports Networks because NBC’s carriage fees have increased. NBC said the carriage fees are in line with what other companies pay for the rights to show live pro sporting events.

The Dish spokesperson said that the company is open to negotiating with NBC to get the regional networks — and live sports — back on the air for customers, but at a different price point.

The A’s opener will be broadcast on ESPN, so Sling and Dish customers may have some solace there, provided that game is not blacked out on the service. An email sent to Dish/Sling asking about the blackout has not yet been returned.

Other options for cord cutters who want to watch the games live include YouTube TV, Hulu, fuboTV. Of course, turning to old-school cable is also an option for fans looking to watch their teams.
