For decades, breakfasts at Hobee’s restaurants have come with your choice of toast or a piece of Blueberry Coffee Cake.

No offense to sourdough, but who wouldn’t want a chunk of that mile-high coffee cake studded with berries and topped with cinnamon streusel?

The recipe was developed in 1975 by restaurant founder Peter Taber and family, and it’s served (warm, with butter) at the original Hobee’s in Mountain View and the locations in Sunnyvale, Palo Alto, Belmont and San Jose.

Now Bay Area expatriates can enjoy that sweet taste of home anywhere in the United States. Hobee’s is baking that legendary recipe for shipping via Goldbelly, an online marketplace that specializes in providing regional and nostalgic food gifts to customers nationwide.

The hefty 4-pound coffee cake serves 12, the website says. Hobee’s bakes and ships Tuesday through Friday each week.

“It’s been going great,” said Camille Chijate, a former employee who now co-owns the restaurant group, noting that they recently shipped a huge order as part of a Goldbelly promotion for the Bay Area.

Goldbelly’s price is $59 for one, or $79 for two, and shipping is free. Much cheaper than a flight back to Silicon Valley.
