The Dish: Westport’s Michael Bolton hosts ‘Dream’ singing competition - Greenwich Time

Scene… Westport resident and music legend Michael Bolton has teamed with Subaru to launch the first season of “Asian Dream,” a reality singing competition spotlighting six talented musicians from across Asia who are competing for a spot on his “Asian Dream Tour” next year and as a Subaru ambassador. Contestants from Hong Kong, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam are mentored, coached and pushed to the limits by Bolton and his co-host, Morissette Amon, as well as other celebrity guests. Bolton, a resident judge and co-creator of “Asian Dream,” was briefly in Singapore in 2019 to film the show, which premiered on Aug. 6 on AXN, a part of the Sony Network.

Time to dine… Stamford Downtown and Stamford Tables 2020 Summer Restaurant Weeks takes place Monday, Aug. 17, through Labor Day, Sept. 7. The event will feature 24 restaurants offering seasonal prix-fixe lunch and dinner menus at value-oriented prices. Participating restaurants include: Acuario Restaurant, Bar Rosso, Barcelona Wine Bar, Bedford Hall Craft Kitchen & Bar, Blackstones Steakhouse, Bull Pan, Cask Republic, Columbus Park Trattoria, Fiesta on Main, Fin II Japanese Restaurant, FISH Restaurant + Bar, Flinders Lane, Hudson Social, InThai Restaurant, Kashi Sushi Lounge, Kotobuki Japanese Restaurant, Kouzina Greek Taverna , Kyushu Ramen, ONE CLUB Tequila Lounge at the Residence Inn, Riviera Maya, Siena Ristorante, The Capital Grille, Tutti Pazzi (formerly Quattro Pazzi) and Winfield Street Coffee. Menu prices range from $14.20 to $22.20 for lunch and $28.20 to $40.20 for dinner. The Avon Theatre Film Center is offering a free medium popcorn with the purchase of a general admission ticket when you request an Avon voucher when dining at Restaurant Week. Out there… The annual Sandblast Sand Sculpture Contest, sponsored by Greenwich Recreation and the Greenwich Arts Council, is going virtual. To enter, submit a photo of your sand sculpture, including the title, full name of the sculptor(s) and home address, by email to ptroiano@greenwichct.org. The deadline to submit is Friday, Aug. 28. The contest is open to Greenwich residents only.

Virtual tour… The Greenwich Library’s virtual tour of “Literacy Landmarks: An Architectural Tour of Historic Libraries” takes place at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 18. The virtual event will feature tours of distinctive public libraries built from the Gilded Age to the present. Out there… The Bedford Playhouse is hosting a virtual question-and-answer session about “Rebuilding Paradise,” a documentary from Ron Howard about resilience in the face of tragedy about a community that was devastated by fire but came together to rebuild. The Q&A will be at &:30 p.m. Monday, Aug. 17, with Alex Wolff, a recent member of the board of directors for Pacific Gas & Electric, the company at the heart of the documentary. Wolff spent his career as a diplomat in the State Department aas an Ambassador and as a high-ranking representative in the United Nations. Rescheduled… Due to the recent power outages from the tropical storm, Stamford’s Project Music event, “Playing for our Future,” has been rescheduled to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 18. The virtual event — honoring its founding board members Joyce DiCamillo, Christel Truglia and Mort Lowenthal — will feature a silent auction, raffles and drawings. There will also be performances by the local rock group Hit The Deck, the Project Music House Band an students as well as a special performance by founder and jazz pianist Joyce DiCamillo and other special guests. Proceeds will benefit Project Music programming to support the Sistema Academy, Prelude Program and Digital Learning Projects as well as the Project Music COVID-19 Emergency Fund to help families struggling with the affects of the pandemic.
