Lou Malnati's will soon bring its world-famous deep-dish pizza to Crown Point.
The Chicago-based pizzeria chain is building out a restaurant at 10712 Broadway near the thriving corner of Broadway and 109th Avenue.
The new Crown Point pizzeria will be carryout and delivery only, according to the Lou Malnati's website.
The new pizzeria will be located in a new strip mall that's under construction across from the booming Beacon Hill development, one of the Region's most active commercial developments in recent years.
New restaurants that have opened in that area include Rosati's Pizza, Sonic, The Original Steaks and Hoagies, Cousins Subs, Glorious Coffee and Teas, Panda Express, Chipotle, Noodles and Co., Red Mango, Fluid Coffee Roasters, Jersey Mike's, Popeye's, and Tomato Bar.
Lou Malnati's is often ranked among Uno's, Gino's East and Giordano's as one of the gold standards for deep dish pizza in Chicago.
Lou Malnati's opened its first location in Indiana at 36 U.S. Highway 41 in the Town Square Shopping Center in Schererville in 2019. It has since opened several Indiana locations in Broad Rippe and 86th Street in Indianapolis and the Indy suburbs of Carmel and Greenwood. It's also working on opening a pizzeria in Avon, a western suburb of Indianapolis in neighboring Hendricks County.

Lou Malnati's was founded in 1971 in the village of Lincolnwood, an inner suburb that borders Chicago on the northwest side. The fast-growing chain now has 80 locations across the country, including in Illinois, Indiana, Wisconsin and Arizona. It has opened more than two dozen new pizzerias over just the past three years.
Lou Malnati's is known for its deep dish pizza with fresh mozzarella cheese and vine-ripened tomato sauce on a butter crust. It also has thin crust pizza, pasta, salads, desserts and appetizers like bruschetta, chicken wings and garlic bread.
The iconic Chicago chain recently partnered with Portillo's on an Italian beef deep dish pizza. The Chicago classic features sausage and extra cheese, while the Lou has spinach, mushrooms and Roma tomatoes topped with melty mozzarella, romano and cheddar cheese on a garlic butter crust.

NWI Business Ins and Outs: Byrd's Hot Chicken, Twin Peaks, Bee and Me Local Market, Panini & Company and El Ranchero Chido opening
Relocated
Bee and Mee Boutique has relocated and rebranded.
The boutique, which started in downtown Griffith, moved from its spot across from Bulldog Park in downtown Crown Point to the historic "green shutters" building at 213 N. Main St., just north of the Old Lake County Courthouse Square. After some renovation, it took over the historic Schmal's Dairy building with the distinctive green shutters just north of the Station 21 restaurant.
It's now known as Bee and Me Local Market. Owner Bre Stover, who also owns The Bankquet special events venue in downtown Griffith, said it now focuses more on locally made products and local spirit wear.
"It's a new spot," she said. "We switched gears to focus more on locally made products and local food products representing local farms, like meat and cheese. We have our spirit wear and T-shirts and support all things local."
In recent years, it's done a booming business in customized uniforms, spirit wear and athletic apparel for local schools in Northwest Indiana. It sells t-shirts geared toward moms, young athletes and students with themes like faith and family. One can find shirts like Mama Claus and I Run on Caffee and Christmas Cheer. It's supplied organizations like Garrett's Popcorn, the Blue Man Group, BP, ArcelorMittal, the South Shore Convention and Visitors Authority, the Chicago Police Department and the Chicago Cubs.
It's still a boutique that sells jewelry, accessories and clothes for men, women and children.

Nashville hot chicken is really hot right now.
Byrd's Hot Chicken is coming to Schererville. It will be located a few miles north of the new Dave's Hot Chicken that's coming to Shops on Main and a few miles east of the homegrown Chick & Shake concept at Centennial Village.
It's taking over the space on Indianapolis Boulevard that was previously occupied by Vegas Cafe Bistro, the high-rolling Las Vegas-themed restaurant that offered breakfast, crepes, American, Latin American and Mexican fare, as well as sandwiches and hot dogs for lunch.
Like Dave's Hot Chicken a few minutes' drive north, Byrd's Hot Chicken is a California-based chain that specializes in Nashville hot chicken. The trendy chicken was invented in Tennessee by a woman seeking revenge against a philandering lover by putting extra spices in his chicken to make it super-hot, but who wowed him so much with her spite-fueled culinary creation they partnered to open a restaurant together.
Nashville hot chicken places like Hattie B's, Granddaddy's Famous Hot Chicken and Prince's Hot Chicken Shack have been a staple in the Music City for years, along with its famous meat-and-three joints, which are exactly what they sound like. Long a must-try for tourists seeing the Grand Ole Opry, the Ryman Auditorium or The Parthenon from the ending of that Robert Altman film, Nashville-style spicy chicken, in which spices like cayenne are blended right into the batter, has exploded in popularity nationally and can often be found on menus in restaurants in big cities like Chicago.
Byrd's Hot Chicken has locations in Anaheim and Redlands in California and Orland Park, Algonquin and Skokie in Illinois. It's expanding to Schaumburg, Houston, and Corona and Santa Ana in California.
The restaurant aims to provide "comfort food with a California twist" and "a cultural fusion of culinary traditions with a focus on freshly prepared ingredients and constant innovation."
The menu includes sandwiches, tenders, wings and chicken nuggets. It also has a fried chicken sandwich with a doughnut for a bun and a "Byrd Bomb" in which a mess of diced chicken tenders, slaw, pickles, cheese and its signature 24/7 sauce are served atop a bed of fries and toast.
The chicken can be ordered to suit one's palate: plain, mild, medium, hot and "supahot" for the truly adventurous. Byrd's Hot Chicken bills itself as the "home of the supahot" and "comfort food meets California cool." Its chicken is all-natural, cage-free, antibiotic-free and halal.
Sides include French fries, fried green beans and mac and cheese. There's also a kids' menu with chicken nuggets and the like.
Like with Chick & Shake, the spicy hot chicken can be washed down with cool, creamy shakes. Byrd's Hot Chicken offers a choice of chocolate, vanilla and strawberry.

Twin Peaks will start its remodeling of the former Houlihan's restaurant in Schererville early next year.
The Texas-based chain, best known for requiring its young female servers to wear scanty attire, is renovating a 7,778-square-foot space in the Fountain Park Shopping Center.
It signed a long-term lease at 1550 U.S. 41 just a short distance from the similarly themed Hooters restaurant near the corner of U.S. 41 and Indianapolis Boulevard, commonly known as the Crossroads of the Nation intersection. Named after anatomy and not geology, Twin Peaks is a sports bar with a lodge-like setting, 29-degree beers and barrel-aged whiskey.
It will be only the third Twin Peaks restaurant in the state of Indiana.
Myles Rapchak, Brett McDermott and Aaron McDermott of Crown Point-based Latitude Commercial, one of the leading commercial real estate firms in Northwest Indiana, represented the property owner in the transaction.
“We are extremely pleased to have landed such a strong tenant for not only Fountain Park, but Schereville and its surrounding communities. While there are over 90 Twin Peaks nationwide, there are only two in Indiana," Rapchak said. "We are thrilled they see the same great opportunities Northwest Indiana has to offer businesses as we do.”

Rebranded
But it now has a selection from local producers like the roaster Smalltown Coffee in Crown Point and Perkins Good Earth Farm in DeMotte. It works with the Region Roots local farm and food hub to supply customers with greens, produce, steaks, hams, cheese, eggs, bagels and other food items. There's a varied selection.
"We've got soups, maple syrups and macaroons," she said. "You can place orders from local farms."
It also features the work of local bakers, such as sweets from Cute as a Cupcake in Merrillville and a maker of French cookies from Griffith.
"We wanted to bring more light on the local products in Northwest Indiana," she said. "There's a lot of cool stuff."
Bee and Me Local Market is open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesday through Friday and from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday

The Mexican restaurant at 3809 Main St. in Indiana Harbor has been a destination for almost 30 years. Now owned by Rodolfo Castro and managed by Sergio Martinez, it reopened at the same location as before, adding a dozen new seafood entrees.
The menu also includes many dinner options such as tortas, flautas, sopes, gorditas, fajitas and pork tamales. It offers dine-in and takeout.
