Gadsden restaurant Downtown Chief will receive statewide and national exposure with a feature on Simply Southern TV for being one of four finalists in Bama’s Best Tomato Dish contest.
The show will premiere locally on WBMA-TV 33/40 in Birmingham on Sunday, Aug 7, at 6:30 a.m. and will be rebroadcast on national cable network RFD-TV the following Wednesday at 3 p.m.
“The Alabama Farmers Federation, Simply Southern TV and Sweet Grown Alabama all joined forces earlier this summer to find Bama’s Best Tomato Dish, and the fried green tomatoes with pepper jelly and pimento cheese from Downtown Chief was a worthy competitor,” said Simply Southern TV co-host Mary Wilson. “We enjoy hosting these contests and getting to meet wonderful restaurant owners, managers and chefs from all over Alabama.”
The winning dish was the Tomato Pie from FDL Gourmet to Go, which sells out of the Montgomery Curb Market. For customers interested in trying the award-winner, pre-ordering through the business Facebook page is a must.
Other finalists included the Tomato Pie from Claunch Cafe in Tuscumbia and the Train Wreck featuring fried green tomatoes from Gather in Atmore.
