STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — It’s a tough and caloric task, but an exercise that must be done — ranking the top restaurants of the year.
With exactly 1,079 restaurants at the moment including 43 “New Unnamed” establishments, it is impossible to eat through them all in the course of a year. And since COVID-19, some dining programs have changed. But through our weekly broadcast The Dish, airing weekly at 11:30 a.m. from the Advance platform, we were able to explore all together the nuances of over 60 restaurants in depth.
Check out some of the best eats in the borough in our 30-minute discussion. From the chat on this program, we will cull a shortened list of the Top 20 of 2021 based on what we’ve tasted over the year.

As the numbers have grown with the program since its inception in September 2020, so has our audience. We are thankful to those who tune in from afar, notably from North Carolina, South Carolina and Las Vegas — interesting, yes? The show helps keep former Staten Islanders up-to-date with current food trends and the restaurant landscape. It also has prompted those from afar to purchase gift cards for friends and family who still live in the borough, a nice way to support the small business community in our home town.
