Men and women will compete together in the groundbreaking gender-neutral event

This is a press release from Cake…

Stockholm, Sweden (July 14, 2021) – Cake—a leading manufacturer of premium, lightweight, electric motorcycles—announces the inaugural Cake World’s, a unique motocross race that will pit 16 riders, both male and female, against each other in a 4X round robin format. All riders will compete aboard the same bike: the Cake Kalk OR Race.

Cake Kalk OR Race

The Cake World’s represents the rare occasion where men and women will toe the starting line together in a motocross race. As no rider will have either a physical (the Kalk OR weighs a scant 165 pounds) or mechanical advantage, it will be a true test of the drivers’ skill.

The Cake World’s is set to take place August 20-21, 2021 on the grounds of the famed Gotland Ring in Sweden. The purpose-built track, designed by Swedish Enduro rider—and Cake World’s competitor—Robert Kvarnström, was created specifically for the lightweight agility and performance of Cake electric motorcycles.

The powerful drivetrain on the featherweight Kalk OR Race delivers 280Nm of torque at the rear wheel, so it can get up to full speed faster than most of its gas-powered counterparts. Cake founder Stefan Ytterborn believes that’s a game changer for the future of sustainable motocross racing. Less room needed to accelerate means tracks can be built in smaller areas, leading to a more spectator-friendly venue. And because electric motorcycles are virtually silent, polluting with neither sound nor emissions, tracks and racing can be brought into suburban environments, making the sport more accessible to fans and participants alike.

“Gotland is the spiritual home of Cake, and I’m excited to host the motocross world on a unique track in a location that’s very special to us,” said Ytterborn. “I’m also proud of the work we’re doing to not only push the world towards reducing its carbon footprint but also to promote gender equality in motor sports.”

The concept was dreamed up by Ytterborn, but the task of making it reality fell on Race Director J.P. Barolo. While some elements, like round robin seeding and practice sessions were easy to adapt from regular motocross racing, the Cake World’s presented some unique challenges due to the fact that only eight bikes will be shared between the field of 16 riders.

“We had to pay very careful attention to the amount of time each bike will be ridden, the number of spare batteries we will need, how much down time we need to recharge those batteries, and how best to spread out the heats so each rider gets enough time to learn the bike and the track,” said Barolo.

The Austrian division of the Red Bull Media House will be producing coverage of the event.  Cake World’s sponsors include Goal Zero, Öhlins, Alpinestars, Northvolts, In&Motion, SunRoof, Barebells, Guide Gloves, and Polestar electric cars.

More information will be posted as it arrives.
