A mother and son are bonding over red velvet cake.
What You Need To Know
“It’s just been a blessing,” said mother Selina King.
Spectrum Bay News 9 shared their story a year ago. Anthony Lewis was nominated as one of our “Everyday Heroes.”
He baked cakes, using his mother’s recipe, to help pay her medical expenses when she was diagnosed with breast cancer. He called the business Selina’s Red Velvet.
Now, King is cancer-free.
And fast forward to this Mother’s Day, she’s been helping out with her son’s thriving cake business.
“I called and said ‘Ma, help me!’” Lewis laughed.
“I’m in, I’m in,” King responded. “Whatever you need me to do, I’m here to do.”
Lewis is the CEO and King says her title is “momma.”
She said it took a little getting used to, when her son started to boss her around.
“It did, it really did,” she laughed. “He’s like ‘Ma, I need you to do this, I need you to do this by this time and I’m like OK, OK.’”
Yet the duo couldn’t be happier to be on this journey together - even with all the challenges along the way. Slices of red velvet cake continue to show the two just how much they mean to one another.
“This is my only lady,” Lewis said and hugged his teary-eyed mom.
“I’m proud,” King said. “I’m a proud mom.”
