LAMPETER, PENN. & ONLINE – One of the highlights of the debut website sale by William R. & Teresa F. Kurau Historical Staffordshire was an open vegetable dish with blue transfer images of the “Hartford Deaf & Dumb Asylum” by Ridgway’s “Beauties of America Series.” The piece dated to circa 1825, measured 12ü by 9ü inches and was in good condition. It came from the estate collection of Calman J. “Buddy” Zamoiski Jr, whose collection of more than 150 pieces formed a sizable portion of the sale, which was conducted on March 5 in a fixed-price online show on the Kurau’s website www.historicalchina.com. The dish was purchased by a client new to the Kuraus who lives in Connecticut with the purpose of adding it to a museum archival collection. Jonathan Kurau said that pieces from the series bring anywhere from $100 to in excess of $5,500 depending on scene, form and condition; he said this particular dish had a value around $1,000.
Watch for a more extensive online show review in a future issue.
