You can’t go out with a bang by using a fork and knife.
Perhaps that was Mike Golic’s thinking during Saturday’s Fiesta Bowl, when he dove face-first into a cake he was given in the booth during his final ESPN appearance.
“Oh, look at that. I got a cake! The Fiesta Bowl thanks you. Look at that,” Golic said as he took the cake from Spirit, the bowl mascot.
“They know, apparently, the way to your heart Mike,” play-by-play man Dave Pasch then said.
Golic then held the cake right up to his face and took a bite, and, after nearly dropping it, took another bite.
“That’s good,” Golic raved during Iowa State’s win over Oregon.
Last month, Golic wrote on Twitter during his final day at ESPN headquarters in Bristol, Conn., that the Fiesta Bowl would be his final ESPN assignment.
ESPN ended Golic’s two-decade run on ESPN radio, canceling his show with Trey Wingo. Golic was paired with Wingo after his longtime morning show with Mike Greenberg ended in 2017.
