Nearly two weeks after Buddy Valastro suffered a terrifying accident that injured his dominant right hand, the famous baker has posted a photo on Instagram of himself with his family, as he practices decorating a cake with his uninjured left hand.
“Family time is the BEST time,” Valastro wrote in his post. “Doing it all over again, left handed..”
Valastro is seen in the photo, icing a white cake at his Montville, N.J., home alongside his daughter, Sofia, and two sons, Buddy Jr., and Marco. His wife, Lisa looks on.
On Sept. 20, a malfunction with the pinsetter occurred while Valastro was bowling with his family on their in-home alley, causing a horrific accident.
Following the accident, a report by People indicated that Valestro’s months-long recovery will require physical therapy, due to nerve, tendon and muscle damage in his dominant right hand.
“I’ve reset it a hundred times,” Valastro, 43, told People. This time, “I guess I looked away, and then my hand got pinned. The metal barb pushed right through the middle of my ring finger and my middle finger. I was stuck in a machine,” the report quoted.
Valastro said, ″It’s really preliminary right now, but they’re saying it’s definitely going to be a long road to recovery,″ the report quoted.
The accident caused the “Cake Boss” to question whether he would be able to return to creating the cakes that made him a household name.
“I have a thing with my hands. If I get a paper cut on my hand, I’m pissed off. My hands to me are my lifeline of everything I do,” he says. “And I wonder, ‘Am I ever going to do what I used to be able to do?’” the report quoted.
The report by People quoted Lisa, his wife, who has no doubt: “He will bake again, even if he has to use his left hand. Trust me.”
Valastro hasn’t wasted any time aiming to prove his wife is correct, as his Instagram photo proves.
