A slice of cake from Princess Diana's wedding is up for auction - Woman & Home

They married over 40 years ago, but a preserved slice of Prince Charles and Princess Diana's wedding cake is now up for auction.

The cake, which features gold, red, blue and silver colors, along with a silver horseshoe and white decorative icing, will go on sale for £200 ($278) on 11th August.

The late princess married Prince Charles over 40 years ago, at St Paul's Cathedral on 27th July 1981. However, the couple separated just 11 years later and were officially divorced by 1996.

The slice of wedding cake was given to Moyra Smith, who worked at Clarence House for the Queen Mother. The very old slice of wedding cake, which has been preserved in plastic wrap, then housed in a cake tin, was sold to Dominic Winter Auctioneers in 2008.

The auctioneer said it "appears to be in exactly the same good condition as when originally sold, but we advise against eating it."

This comes just a week after another batch of Princess Diana's personal possessions were auctioned off. The late royal's childhood bicycle was sold by East Bristol Auctions on 24 July, alongside a handwritten note from the princess. 

The red 'Chopper' style bike was adored by Diana as a child in the 1970s, while the handwritten note provides an insight into her inner circle growing up at Althorp House. 

Last month a Princess Diana statue was also unveiled in tribute for what would have been her 60th birthday. This memorial statue was organized by her sons Prince William and Prince Harry who came together to plan this event for their late mother.

All eyes were on Prince Harry and Prince William as they came together for the first time since Prince Philip's funeral. A rift has formed between the formerly close brothers in recent months, ever since Prince Harry chose to step back as a senior royal and aired his reasons for doing so during a tell-all interview with Oprah Winfrey. 

But, according to sources, the brothers were determined to put their differences aside and not let their feud overshadow the important event.

Giants give Gabe Kapler a 'steak cake' for his 46th birthday - NBC Sports Bay Area

Gabe Kapler celebrated his 46th birthday on Saturday the only way he knows out, by eating a lot of ... protein? 

Not quite.

After the Giants beat the Houston Astros 8-6 at Oracle Park, the players and coaches surprised their manager with a massive cake that looks like a tomahawk steak with a baked potato on the side. 

“The guys did get me a nice cake in the shape of a steak, which I thought was super creative," Kapler told reporters after the game. "I’m looking forward to getting in there and eating it with them.” 

What does it taste like? Did anyone eat it? Where did it come from? There are so many questions that come to mind. 

“I don’t know (what it was made out of), I didn't see it cut into," Kapler said. "It had candles in it, and it was a big, tomahawk ribeye shape with a pad of butter on it and then a potato which was totally out of place because these guys know that I won't eat that.

"The steak was really cool looking. I don’t know what is in the middle of it yet, I'm going to have to go find out.”

The Giants players were just as enamored with the bizarre cake as Kapler was.

“It’s a cake that looks like a steak ... with a side of a baked potato. That might also be a cake too,” first baseman Darin Ruf told reporters postgame.

So, did anyone eat it? Have any of our questions been answered?

“It was really cool, it was really nice...I’ve never actually seen anything like that, but a bunch of guys were taking pictures of it," LaMonte Wade Jr. said postgame. "I’m pretty sure nobody really ate it because everybody wanted to take pictures and were all in awe of it.”

Come on guys, the people need to know.
